Strasbourg’s Unesco-listed center, Grande-Île, was our second stop on our Rhine River cruise
We were so disappointed that we were unable to climb up the tower of the Romanesque-Gothic Cathédrale de Notre-Dame. Built during the 11th to 15th centuries, its tower is the highest cathedral tower in France, but alas, it was closed.
Instead, we spent our day exploring Petite France, the old tanners’ district by the river Ill. Its cobbled, narrow streets lined with half-timbered houses, so typical of the Alsace region, kept us plenty busy.
What a beautiful place.
